Pedro Coloma initiated the construction of this fortified residence in the 16th century along the Scheldt River to protect the region from invaders.

The castle exhibits a collection of 16th-century paintings depicting Margaret of Austria, Charles V, and Philip II, along with 18th-century furniture and Brueghel engravings.

Visitors can access the castle museum at Kasteelstraat 34 in Bornem for 8 euros, where they can explore the historical rooms and carriage collection.

The castle grounds border the Vieil Escaut, a former branch of the Scheldt River that changed its course during the 13th century.
