Sint-Walburgakerk

The Sint-Walburgakerk features an 88-meter-high tower and combines early Gothic choir architecture with 15th-century Brabantine Gothic elements in its lower section.

Construction began in the 12th century with Tournai limestone, followed by extensive rebuilding in the 15th century that introduced the Brabantine Gothic style.

The church houses the oldest carillon in the world, with regular Sunday afternoon concerts performed by the city carilloneur from the tower.

From June to September, visitors can access the church Tuesday through Saturday afternoons, with extended hours on Thursdays and special schedules on Sundays.

The church walls display two distinct construction materials: Tournai stone transported via the Scheldt River and Balegem stone, which shows sensitivity to acid rain.
