Le Nouveau Bourgeois de Coxyde

Le Nouveau Bourgeois de Coxyde is a bronze statue modeled after Brussels' Manneken Pis and depicts a small figure with one hand on its hip directing water flow. The work stands near Schallerbachplein and remains accessible throughout the year.

The original work was installed in 1923 on a villa's grounds owned by a Brussels colonel, establishing its local importance. A replacement figure was installed in 2008 after the original disappeared.

The statue links this coastal town to Brussels and represents the connection between the two communities. It serves as a local landmark in an area known for elegant villas and their affluent residents.

The statue is easy to reach in a publicly accessible area near Schallerbachplein and can be visited at any time of day. It is best viewed in daylight and good weather when the water features are most visible.

A Virgin Mary figure temporarily replaced the statue before a new version was reinstalled, marking an unusual chapter in its history. This shows how deeply the local community valued this symbol of their connection to Brussels.
