Aula Rector Dhanis, University auditorium in Stadscampus, Belgium.
The Aula Rector Dhanis is an auditorium with around 700 seats arranged in a triangular building structure in central Antwerp. The hall features three large screens to support presentations and campus events.
The building was completed in 2002 according to designs by architects Driesen-Meersman-Thomaes. In 2003 it won recognition at the inaugural Prijs Bouwmeester awards, an important regional architecture prize.
The hall bears the name of Etienne Dhanis, the founding rector of the former university that now operates as part of a larger institution. This naming reflects the building's role in the academic life of the city.
Access is designed for visitor comfort with wide doorways and extra space for mobility throughout the building. Outlets are positioned near aisle seats, allowing visitors to charge devices during longer events.
The interior was designed by British artist Perry Roberts using soft pastel tones, while Austrian artist Aglaia Konrad created glass prints throughout the complex. This artistic collaboration gives the functional space a distinctive visual character.
