Bruges seminary, Religious education center in Potterierei, Belgium
Bruges Seminary is a religious education center in the Potterierei district, with buildings dating mainly to the 17th century. A carillon tower containing 26 bells rises from its southeastern wing, marking the skyline of the area.
The institution was built between 1628 and 1642 on the grounds of the former Ten Duinen Abbey, which had been established by Bernard Campmans in 1627. This transformation of a monastic site into a seminary reflected the religious priorities of the 17th century.
The facility includes BIBLIA, an interactive center where visitors can experience biblical narratives through guided audio and exhibitions. The space draws people interested in exploring religious themes and stories in a contemporary way.
The complex contains nine meeting rooms that accommodate 8 to 40 people, plus an auditorium seating 138 in theater configuration. Most areas are accessible mainly during scheduled events or organized tours rather than for casual walk-ins.
The bell tower contains one of the oldest automated playing systems still functioning in the Low Countries. This mechanical apparatus from the 17th century automatically rings the bells at set times throughout the day.
