Kapucijnenkerk, Catholic church in Ostend, Belgium
The Kapucijnenkerk stands 72 meters tall with two naves, displaying Gothic architecture and round arches supported by stone columns throughout the interior.
The first stone of the Kapucijnenkerk was placed in 1618 by Jan Maximiliaan d'Enghien, following an agreement between Ostend's mayor and Father Simon François.
The church contains maritime ex-votos and votive ships dedicated to Saint Anthony, reflecting the deep connection between Ostend's fishing community and religious traditions.
The church building occupies a central position at Kapucijnenstraat 5, offering regular mass services and maintaining specific visiting hours for tourists.
During the plague epidemic of 1666, the Capuchin monks from this church devoted themselves to caring for the sick and assisting shipwreck survivors.
