Arc du Cinquantenaire
Arc du Cinquantenaire, Triumphal arch in European Quarter, Brussels, Belgium
The Arc du Cinquantenaire features a bronze quadriga with four horses and a chariot representing the province of Brabant at its summit.
King Leopold II commissioned this monument to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Belgian independence, with construction completed in 1905.
Eight statues along the sides of the arch represent different Belgian provinces, expressing national identity through architectural elements.
Visitors can reach the observation platform at the top of the 45-meter arch for views across Brussels and the European Quarter.
The ceiling contains stone caissons decorated with laurel wreaths and inscriptions related to Belgian national principles.
