Archéosite d'Aubechies-Belœil

Archéosite d'Aubechies-Belœil is an interpretation centre with reconstructed buildings spanning from the Neolithic period to the Gallo-Roman era across several hectares. The structures are arranged across the landscape to show authentic living and working spaces from these different time periods.

The site was established in 1983 following archaeological discoveries in the region that uncovered the foundations of ancient structures. It traces how settlement patterns, building techniques, and ways of life changed across five millennia of regional history.

The site takes its name from two nearby villages and features reconstructed buildings that show how people organized their lives across different periods. You can observe how daily routines, shelter design, and community gathering spaces evolved over thousands of years.

Visitors can walk through the grounds and enter the reconstructed buildings, with guided tours available in several languages. It is advisable to wear comfortable shoes and allow time for a relaxed exploration of the entire site.

A temple was reconstructed with statues of deities, showing how sacred spaces looked during Roman times. This replica is based on archaeological evidence and offers insight into how people expressed their spiritual beliefs.
