Château de Moulbaix, Protected heritage castle in Moulbaix, Belgium.
Château de Moulbaix is a Tudor-style stately home in the municipality of Ath, in the Walloon region of Belgium. The building has a detailed facade with timber framing, small turrets, and many windows that are typical features of this English architectural style.
The estate originally belonged to the de Chasteler family, who managed the property and the surrounding village for generations. In 1860, architect Désiré Limbourg oversaw a full transformation of the complex into its current Tudor form.
The castle displays English design elements that were uncommon in this Walloon region during the 19th century. The timber framing and patterned stonework give the building a look that stands apart from local manor houses of the same period.
The estate is privately owned and cannot be visited from inside, but the facade can be seen from the surrounding public areas. Walking along the nearby path gives the best view of both the building and the grounds.
The park surrounding the castle was partly designed by Louis Fuchs, a landscape architect who also worked on several parks in Brussels during the 19th century. His design brings together English garden traditions and the local woodland that already existed on the site.
