L'Archéosite d'Aubechies

This archaeological park displays reconstructed dwellings spanning five millennia, from Neolithic settlements to a Gallo-Roman villa complete with period details. Each building shows how people arranged their homes and structured their living spaces across different eras.

The site began with archaeological digs by Léonce Demarez, who found remains in the Blicquy area and started an educational facility. His discoveries eventually inspired the creation of these full-scale reconstructions to bring ancient life to visitors.

The reconstructed structures showcase how people worked with their hands and stored food across different periods of prehistory and antiquity. You can observe how daily life and building methods evolved gradually over time.

The site is easy to explore on foot, with clear paths connecting the different buildings and time periods. Wear comfortable shoes and allow enough time to walk through each structure and view the surrounding grounds.

The park features a 16-meter reconstructed Roman barge that floats on water to demonstrate how ancient traders moved goods. This working replica is based on an actual vessel discovered and preserved elsewhere in the region.
