Musée Postes restantes, Postal history museum in Hermalle-sous-Huy, Belgium
The Postes restantes is a museum housed in a historic farm building that focuses on the history of postal services. It displays around 2000 items including postman uniforms, writing implements, stamps, and mailboxes.
The museum was established in 2004 following a substantial donation from philatelist Armand Henrot. His personal collection of postal items formed the foundation of what you see on display today.
The exhibits show how written communication shaped daily life, from handwritten letters to modern ways of staying in touch. You can see the tools and methods people actually used to reach each other across distances.
Visits require advance arrangement by calling ahead to schedule an appointment. Guided tours are offered on weekdays for groups and on weekends for individual visitors.
The museum maintains an open information counter where visitors can learn about postal services at any time. It stands as the only place in Belgium dedicated entirely to the history and culture of the postal system.
