European School, Brussels I, european school in Uccle, Brussels, Belgium
European School Brussels I is an international school for children aged four to eighteen with two campuses in the Brussels neighborhoods of Uccle and Forest. It serves over four thousand students from more than sixty countries in up to thirteen different languages and employs over five hundred teaching and support staff.
The school was founded in 1958 and was the second European School established to serve children of workers in the European Coal and Steel Community. Over the decades it expanded alongside European institutions and added new language sections to reflect the changing composition of its student body.
The school brings together students from over sixty countries who learn in up to thirteen different languages, creating a daily environment where diverse cultures interact naturally. Through shared spaces and multilingual instruction, students develop an understanding of different perspectives and ways of life as part of their everyday experience.
The two school campuses are located in the Brussels neighborhoods of Uccle and Forest and are well served by public transport. Visitors should check the school website or contact the administration in advance to arrange access and learn about visiting hours and current entry requirements.
Notably, two graduates of the school later became European leaders: Ursula von der Leyen, the current President of the European Commission, and Boris Johnson, the former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. This connection highlights the school's role in educating individuals who went on to hold key positions in Europe.
