Belgian Chocolate Village, Museu em Koekelberg, Bélgica
The Belgian Chocolate Village is a museum in a converted factory building in Koekelberg dedicated to the history and craft of chocolate making. The exhibition spans about 900 square meters and features antique tools, interactive displays, life-size chocolate sculptures of famous Brussels landmarks, and a tropical greenhouse with cocoa plants.
The building was originally the chocolate and biscuit factory "Biscuiteries Chocolateries Victoria" from the early 20th century and was famous for its then-popular Big Nuts bar. The structure retains Art Deco elements and colorful ceramic tiles from 1904 that reflect the Belle Epoque period.
The museum shows how chocolate is deeply rooted in Belgian identity and maintained by artisans with great pride. The spaces are filled with signs of how chocolate plays a role in daily life and the value Belgians place on their craft tradition.
The museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday and closed on Mondays and holidays such as Christmas and New Year's Day. The site is accessible by public transport with a stop at Simonis nearby, and parking is available in the surrounding area.
The museum features a collection of life-size chocolate sculptures depicting Brussels landmarks created by skilled chocolatiers. These artistic works demonstrate how flexible and expressive chocolate can be as a medium.
