Park Schaveys, Public park in Linkebeek and Beersel, Belgium
Park Schaveys is a 55 hectare (136 acre) green area spanning across Linkebeek and Beersel, containing deciduous and coniferous forests, fruit orchards, open meadows, and water features that form distinct habitat zones. The land connects different landscape types into one continuous natural space.
The site originated from Hof te Schavei, a farm established around 1100, which changed hands when the Van Aa family sold it to Hendrik Van Witthem in 1482. This transaction marked a shift in how the land was managed and used.
The layout of the grounds reflects historic estate structures that visitors can still trace in the park's design today. This connection to the past shapes how people perceive and move through the space.
Paved pathways throughout the site make it accessible for visitors with mobility needs, while bus stops are located within walking distance of the main entrance. These features make it easy to visit without a car.
A research center operated by the Institute for Nature and Forest functions within the park grounds to study sustainable breeding of sensitive fish species. This working laboratory is not immediately obvious to visitors walking the trails.
