Kasteeldomein Blauwhuis, Protected monument and estate in Izegem, Belgium.
Kasteeldomein Blauwhuis is a protected estate with a neoclassical main building stretching across several hectares and featuring carefully preserved rooms for receptions. The property functions today as a restaurant and event venue, with the surrounding gardens and grounds open to visitors.
The property was first mentioned in 1544 when it served as a tenant farm for the Schiervelde lordship near Roeselare. Over centuries it developed into a larger estate, later shaped and inhabited by the Gillès de Pélichy family.
The small neo-gothic chapel displays stained glass windows showing nine patron saints, reflecting a personal connection to the family that once lived here.
The grounds have been open to the public since 2017 and offer both dining and event facilities. Visitors should check in advance whether specific areas are available, as the property is often used for private functions.
The name Blauwhuis, meaning Blue House, came from the original blue slate roof that covered the early structure and gave the estate its distinctive name. The roof no longer exists, but the name remains as a reminder of how the building once looked.
