Eperon d'Or

Eperon d'Or is a museum housed in a former Art Deco shoe factory building with a carefully restored administrative wing and a modern rooftop addition for displays. The venue holds roughly 4000 pairs of shoes from different periods and exhibits about the brush manufacturing tradition that flourished in Flanders.

The company Eperon d'Or was founded in 1863 and grew into a major employer in the region, producing high-quality footwear for decades. The factory became deeply embedded in the local economy and shaped work life for generations of families in the area.

The collection documents how shoemaking shaped daily life and work in this region for generations, reflecting the pride local craftspeople took in their trade. The exhibits show how this industry became woven into the identity and economy of the community.

The museum is accessible from Tuesday through Sunday, with opening hours that change depending on the season. It is helpful to check the exact times before your visit, as summer months and holiday periods offer extended opening hours.

The museum features a recreated 1950s shoe production line that shows how shoes were made step by step during that era. Next to it stands an original steam engine that once powered the factory machines, serving as a reminder of the industrial force that drove this trade.
