Rumbeke Castle, Renaissance castle in Rumbeke, Belgium
Rumbeke Castle is a castle featuring Renaissance architecture in Roeselare. The buildings sit surrounded by moats, and later renovations from the 18th century added Neoclassical elements to the original 16th-century design.
The castle was built in the 16th century and later suffered damage from the invasion of Louis XIV. During World War I, German military commander Manfred von Richthofen used the property as his residence.
The 1975 film 'That Lucky Touch' selected Rumbeke Castle as a filming location, incorporating the historical structure into scenes with Roger Moore and Shelley Winters.
The interior opens only during exhibitions, but visitors can explore the surrounding grounds and adjacent forest during daylight hours year-round. There is a spacious park around the buildings that remains freely accessible.
The adjacent forest was designed in the 18th century to mirror Vienna's Prater park and connects harmoniously with the castle. This park design was uncommon for the region and shows the influence of broader European ideas about landscape.
