Het Sterrebos, Province domain and forest in Rumbeke, Belgium
Het Sterrebos is a forest and provincial domain in Rumbeke covering about 27 hectares with wooded sections, landscaped pathways designed in a radiating star pattern, and meadow areas. The grounds feature a children's play area with castle-themed structures and remain open for visitors to explore on foot.
The grounds developed as a provincial forest and were shaped in the 19th century with an English garden design whose paths radiate in a star formation from a central point. The name Sterrebos derives from this distinctive star-shaped layout of the pathways and green areas.
Families visit to enjoy the open grounds and let children play in the themed playground with castle structures and climbing features. The shaded paths and meadows serve as gathering spaces for walks and rest throughout the seasons.
The grounds are free to enter and easy to explore on foot with clear pathways for orientation. Shaded areas provide resting spots and open sections are best visited during dry weather for comfortable walking.
A centuries-old plane tree grows near Kasteel van Rumbeke and towers about 30 meters high, casting extensive shade across the surrounding area. Many visitors pass by without realizing this specimen is one of the oldest living features on the domain.
