Aula Pieter De Somer, University auditorium in Leuven, Belgium.

The Aula Pieter De Somer is an auditorium located on Charles Deberiot Street, surrounded by Paus College, Maria Theresia College, the Maurits Sabbe Library, and a city park. The hall accommodates around 800 people and functions as a central venue for the university.

Architect Paul Van Aerschot designed the building, which opened in 1989 and was named after KU Leuven's first rector. The hall was conceived from the start as a central venue for academic and university gatherings.

A sculpture by Vic Gentils portraying Pieter De Somer greets visitors at the entrance. A 2022 mural by street artist Case Maclaim commemorates Sanda Dia and adds another layer of meaning to the space.

The building sits in central Leuven and is easily walkable from many student residences and faculty buildings. Keep in mind that it opens primarily for scheduled events throughout the academic year.

The hall features modern audio-visual equipment that allows lectures and performances to be broadcast in high quality. This technical setup makes it one of the best-equipped venues in the region.
