Sint-Annastrand, Riverside beach and recreation area in Antwerp, Belgium
Sint-Annastrand extends along the banks of the Scheldt River, offering sandy shores and grassy areas for outdoor activities and waterfront relaxation.
The area originated from a 12th-century chapel dedicated to Saint Anne, later developing into a leisure destination following the world exhibitions of 1885 and 1894.
The beach area maintains a tradition of mussel dining establishments, connecting to its past when the former village of St Anna was known for this local specialty.
Swimming in the Scheldt River is forbidden due to dangerous currents, but visitors can use the outdoor swimming pool De Molen during summer months.
After World War II, Sint-Annastrand housed Camp Top Hat, a temporary repatriation facility for 16,500 American soldiers returning home from Europe.
