Waaslandtunnel, Road tunnel and protected monument in Antwerp, Belgium.

The Waaslandtunnel is a road tunnel in Antwerp that runs approximately 2100 meters beneath the city and connects downtown with the area on the left bank. It has one traffic lane in each direction and serves mainly local urban traffic needs.

Built in 1933, the tunnel was the first structure to pass beneath the Scheldt River. This construction marked an important step forward in Antwerp's transportation connections.

Local residents call the tunnel the 'Rabbit Pipe' because of its narrow passages and how traffic moves through it in a specific pattern. This nickname shows how the place has become part of everyday conversation for people in the city.

The tunnel has a height restriction of 4 meters and is not designed for heavy goods vehicles. Keep in mind that larger vehicles cannot pass through and must use alternative routes.

The tunnel is recognized as a protected monument, a status that underscores its historical and technical heritage among infrastructure from that era. This combination of function and protected status is rare for structures of this type.
