Baba Vida

The castle consists of two circular defensive walls and nine towers constructed with thick stone blocks rising near the Danube River.

The fortress originated in the 10th century on the foundation of Roman fort Bononia and underwent multiple expansions during Bulgarian and Ottoman periods.

The central courtyard of Baba Vida contains a stage where traditional Bulgarian folklore performances and historical reenactments take place throughout summer.

The fortress operates as a museum with guided tours in multiple languages, offering access to towers, battlements, and underground chambers from 9 AM to 5 PM.

The fortification remained unconquered through centuries of conflicts and stands as the sole completely preserved medieval castle in Bulgaria.
