Vidin

Vidin is a city along the Danube River in northwestern Bulgaria, stretching across two notable curves of the waterway. The place displays architecture from many periods, situated at roughly 34 meters (112 ft) above sea level.

The city began as Bononia during Roman times and evolved through Byzantine and Ottoman periods into a strategic fortress settlement. These historical layers shaped what the place became and its importance along the Danube.

Places of worship representing different faiths stand throughout the city, including the Cathedral of Saint Dimitar and a synagogue, reflecting centuries of coexistence. These buildings shape the character of the place and show how diverse communities have called it home.

Baba Vida fortress rests on ancient Roman foundations and stands as Bulgaria's only completely intact medieval castle. Walking through it, you can trace the stone walls across centuries and see views over the Danube valley.
