Pirin peak

Pirin peak reaches an elevation of 2,593 meters and forms part of the Baiuvi Dupki Reserve within the Pirin mountain range in southwestern Bulgaria.

The peak stands as a witness to centuries of geological formations, shaped by glacial activities during the Pleistocene period in the Balkan Peninsula.

The name Pirin likely derives from Perun, the thunder god in Slavic mythology, reflecting the deep connection between Bulgarian culture and its mountains.

Hikers can reach the summit through marked trails starting from the Shirinata mountain hut, which sits 1,921 meters west-southwest of the peak.

The peak ranks as number 61 among the 93 summits in Pirin National Park and maintains a prominence of 166 meters above surrounding terrain.
