Gradishte

Gradishte is a Thracian megalithic sanctuary in Dolno Dryanovo, Bulgaria, where natural rock formations blend with carved stone structures and human figures spread across the landscape. The site features a network of paths guiding visitors through different sections of archaeological remains and geological formations.

The site was established during the Stone Age and shows signs of religious activities spanning thousands of years, according to archaeological research. Excavations have uncovered remains of ceremonial buildings and evidence that this place held spiritual importance for early inhabitants.

Walking through the sanctuary, you see carved circles and ritual steps cut into stone, with a ceremonial arch that locals call Promushvalka where people once gathered for healing practices.

The site can be reached through a parking area and features marked walking paths connecting the main sections. Plan your visit when weather is clear so you can see the rock formations and carved details without difficulty.

The highest point of the site, called The Head, towers 88 meters above the surrounding landscape and is surrounded by steep cliffs on every side. This isolated position may explain why the Thracians chose this spot for their most sacred ceremonies.
