Murgash Peak, Mountain summit in Sofia Province, Bulgaria
Murgash Peak is a mountain summit in Sofia Province featuring a distinctive dome-like form rising to 1,687 meters. The slopes drop steeply on all sides, and the entire structure is built from ancient sedimentary rock layers.
A meteorological station was installed on the summit in 1953 to continuously monitor weather patterns. This observation post has remained operational since its establishment and provides long-term climate data for the region.
The peak has long served as a landmark for the region and holds meaning for hikers who visit regularly. Two important rivers originate in this area and shape the surrounding landscape.
The mountain is reached by marked hiking trails that approach from various directions. A mountain hut situated at 1,490 meters southwest of the summit provides shelter and serves as a useful reference point for hikers.
On clear days, the summit offers views reaching Sofia city, the Rila Mountain range with Musala peak, the Rhodope range, and territory across the border into Serbia. The panorama extends far beyond the immediate surroundings and reveals the interconnection of the region's geographic features.
