Old Grodno Castle, Medieval castle in Hrodna, Belarus
The Old Castle occupies an elevated position on Castle Hill, featuring Renaissance architecture with a two-color grey-and-white decorated facade along the Neman River.
During the late 14th century, Duke Vytautas established the fortress as his residence, leading to substantial reconstruction efforts and military fortification enhancements.
The castle served as a venue for the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth General Sejm meetings in 1678, 1688, and 1699, marking its role in regional governance.
The castle houses historical exhibitions displaying archaeological findings, including tools, military equipment, and everyday items from the 11th to 15th centuries.
The structure represents the only preserved example of a medieval royal residence in Belarus that combines Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque architectural elements.
