Transfiguration Church in Polack, Eastern Orthodox church in Polack, Belarus
The Transfiguration Church is a stone building with traditional dome architecture located in Polotsk. Inside, it preserves remarkable frescoes from the 12th century that remain visible to this day.
The church was built in 1128 following the initiative of local ruler Euphrosyne of Polotsk. Its construction followed architectural principles developed in this region during that era.
The interior walls display medieval religious paintings that reflect early Belarusian Orthodox artistic traditions and spiritual expressions of the period.
The church opens its doors to visitors outside prayer times. The main entrance is located on the western side of the building.
The building shows the use of a specific six-pillar structure that is characteristic of the Polotsk architectural school. This system connects the nave and transept in a distinctive way.
