Minsk TV tower, Television tower in Central District, Minsk, Belarus.
Minsk TV Tower is a 180-meter-high lattice structure that rises above the city center and shapes the skyline. The tower was built to broadcast television and radio signals across the region and served as a key communications hub.
The tower was built between 1954 and 1956 during post-war reconstruction and marked the start of modern broadcasting in Belarus. The project was part of Soviet efforts to rebuild the nation after World War II.
The tower transmitted its first color television broadcast on October 6, 1967, when only five color TV sets existed in the entire city of Minsk.
The tower is accessible from the city center and features an observation platform at about 160 meters height. Visit on clear days to make the most of the views from the platform.
In 1976 a specialized helicopter lifted off the top 40-meter section of the tower to adjust its height for a new antenna system. This unusual modification significantly changed how the structure appeared.
