Montréal–Trudeau International Airport, International airport in Dorval, Canada
Montréal–Trudeau International Airport is an international airport in Dorval that handles connections to destinations across five continents through several terminals with departure areas. Two parallel runways run from northeast to southwest and allow simultaneous flight movements.
The facility opened in 1941 as Dorval Airport and served as a military base during the Second World War. It received its current name in 2004 in honor of the prime minister who came from the city.
The facility takes its name from a former prime minister who grew up in Montreal and spoke both languages from childhood. Announcements and signage appear consistently in French and English, mirroring daily life in the region.
The site sits roughly 20 kilometers west of downtown Montreal and can be reached by expressway and public bus lines. Shops and restaurants are located mainly in the international departure areas after security checkpoints.
A major aerospace company operates an assembly hall for commercial aircraft alongside passenger operations at the airport. Maintenance facilities allow the overhaul of complete aircraft models on site.
