Bécancour, city in Quebec, Canada
Bécancour is a city in Quebec province located on the south side of the Saint Lawrence River near Trois-Rivières. It was formed in 1965 when eleven smaller towns merged, and today it spans six districts with most activity centered near the riverbank.
Bécancour has deep roots with the Abenaki Wôlinak reservation, whose people arrived from Maine after Father Rale's War. In 1759, Acadian people also sought refuge here to escape British upheaval in what is now New Brunswick.
Bécancour maintains its own local identity despite being near Trois-Rivières, hosting events like a hot air balloon festival and weekly markets where residents gather. The neighborhoods preserve their distinct character while sharing city services that strengthen community bonds.
Visitors can explore green spaces like Parc écologique Godefroy and Jardins des lilas on foot or cycle along designated routes at a leisurely pace. The Route des Navigateurs connects the wider region, making it easy to move through the area while taking time to enjoy the surroundings.
Bécancour houses the Jardin de sculptures with outdoor artworks and the Musée de la Biodiversité du Québec showcasing natural history and biodiversity of the region. The Quai de Sainte-Angèle offers river views and a quiet connection to nature.
