Woodstock is a town at the headwaters of the Thames River in Oxford County, southern Ontario. The settlement lies roughly 128 kilometers west of Toronto and stretches across an area with residential, commercial, and industrial neighborhoods along major roadways.
The first settlers arrived around 1800 from New York and built log houses along Dundas Street. The community grew into a trading center during the nineteenth century, drawing more settlers from Britain and other parts of North America.
The community takes its name from a Walter Scott novel, suggested by early settler Henry Vansittart. Public parks and community centers now shape the town's character, where residents gather for local events and sports activities throughout the year.
The local bus network connects different parts of town throughout the day. The train station offers connections to other cities in Ontario, making it easier to travel across the region.
