Grande Bibliothèque, National library building in Quartier Latin, Montreal, Canada.
The Grande Bibliothèque is a six-level building with glass walls and contemporary design that houses more than 4 million documents and educational materials. Inside, visitors find reading areas, computer stations, and diverse collections that serve different information needs.
The building came from merging the Grande Bibliothèque du Québec and the Bibliothèque nationale du Québec in 2002, with doors opening in April 2005. This merger created a single central hub for knowledge and cultural materials across the province.
The library holds the Collection nationale, which preserves Quebec's cultural heritage, alongside materials in French, English, and other languages that serve the broader community. Visitors can explore items that reflect the region's identity and diversity.
The building connects directly to the Berri-UQAM Metro station and offers reading areas, computer stations, and digital resources. Access to collections and services is available to visitors, with special offerings for Quebec residents.
The building includes specialized facilities for electronic music composition, available to musicians and music students. Additionally, it maintains over 50,000 documents in formats adapted for visually impaired users.
