St. Michael's Basilica

St. Michael's Basilica is located on Howard Street and built from sandstone blocks, with a copper-roofed spire and rows of marble-faced columns supporting a vaulted interior ceiling. The main worship space has galleries and a central altar illuminated by tall stained glass windows.

Construction took place between 1903 and 1922, replacing an earlier church destroyed by fire in 1878. The basilica served as the Episcopal seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Chatham and continues to hold religious importance for the local Catholic community.
