Miscou Island Lighthouse, Maritime navigation landmark at Birch Point Cape, Miscou Island, Canada.

Miscou Island Lighthouse is an octagonal wooden tower at the northeastern tip of New Brunswick overlooking the entrance to Chaleur Bay. The structure stands about 24 meters tall and was built to guide ships through the waters of the Gulf of St. Lawrence.

The Province of New Brunswick built this lighthouse in 1856 to reduce shipping accidents at the southern entrance of Chaleur Bay. The construction was a key response to the dangers of busy sea traffic in the area.

The structure demonstrates traditional maritime engineering with eight independent wooden panels built separately, representing construction methods from the mid-1800s. Visitors can observe how craftspeople assembled these individual pieces to create a functioning tower.

The site offers a paved parking area for tour buses and public washroom facilities for visitors. There are also grassy areas with picnic tables where you can enjoy a meal outdoors.

In 1946, the entire lighthouse structure was moved 61 meters inland as shoreline erosion threatened its original location. This remarkable relocation project shows how people adapted to changing coastal conditions.
