Willowdale, Federal electoral district in Toronto, Canada
Willowdale is a federal electoral district in the northern part of Toronto, running from Finch Avenue in the north down to Highway 401 in the south, and bounded by Bathurst Street to the west and Bayview Avenue to the east. It covers a mix of residential streets with detached houses, apartment blocks, shopping plazas, and schools, all connected to the city's transit network.
Willowdale was created as a federal electoral district in 1976 when a redistribution merged parts of the former ridings of Eglinton, York North, and York Centre. That change reflected the steady population growth Toronto had seen across its northern neighborhoods through the 20th century.
Willowdale is home to one of the largest Korean communities in Toronto, and this presence is easy to spot in the restaurants, grocery stores, and bilingual signs along its main streets. Strolling through the blocks near Yonge Street, visitors come across Korean bakeries, karaoke bars, and cafes sitting next to everyday Canadian shops.
The district is well connected to Toronto's subway and bus network, with the Yonge line running through its core from north to south. Those exploring the area on foot will find that local shops and restaurants are spread along the main roads, making it easy to move between neighborhoods without needing a car.
Willowdale was one of the most reliable ridings for a single party across Canada for over three decades, which is unusual for such a large and changing city area. That consistency only broke in the early 2000s as the neighborhood's demographic mix shifted noticeably.
