Masson-Angers, Administrative sector in Gatineau, Canada

Masson-Angers is a sector of Gatineau, Quebec, on the north shore of the Ottawa River about 30 km northeast of downtown Ottawa. The Du Lièvre River crosses it, and it holds two private hydroelectric stations, a pulp and paper mill, a community centre, a sports centre and four primary schools. Its territory corresponds to Gatineau's Bassin-de-la-Lièvre urban village.

The village municipality of Masson was created on 24 March 1897, detached from the township of Buckingham, and became a town on 26 September 1966. Angers was constituted as a village municipality in 1915, separated from the parish of L'Ange-Gardien. A provincial law merged both into Buckingham in 1975, and they separated again in 1979; Masson and Angers merged in 1980, and a 1992 referendum renamed the town Masson-Angers. It was amalgamated into Gatineau on 1 January 2002.

The names come from two figures: Masson honours Louis François Rodrigue Masson, Quebec's lieutenant-governor, whose post office took the name in 1887; Angers recalls the French city of Angers, birthplace of Abbé Eugène Trinquier, first permanent priest of L'Ange-Gardien, and was given to the post office in 1869. The two municipalities merged in 1980, and a 1992 referendum renamed the town Masson-Angers.

Masson-Angers lies about 30 km northeast of downtown Ottawa, on the north shore of the Ottawa River where the Du Lièvre River crosses it. Route 148 and Autoroute 50 are the main roads; STO Route 97 serves the sector all day, linking Gatineau and Buckingham, while Routes 93, 94 and 95 run only at peak periods. The nearest emergency care is the Hôpital de Papineau in the Buckingham sector.

Masson-Angers keeps two private hydroelectric stations and a pulp and paper mill along the Rivière du Lièvre, which cuts through the sector before reaching the Ottawa River. The territory also corresponds to Gatineau's Bassin-de-la-Lièvre urban village, and its northern edge lies in the maple-basswood bioclimatic domain.
