Asessippi Provincial Park, Provincial park in Shellmouth-Boulton, Manitoba, Canada

Asessippi Provincial Park sits along Lake of the Prairies in the Assiniboine River valley, covering roughly 23 square kilometers. The land combines aspen forests, rolling hills, and prairie grassland in a mixed terrain.

The area became a provincial park in 1964, following the completion of Shellmouth Dam. This dam created Lake of the Prairies and reshaped the river valley landscape.

The name comes from Cree language, where 'sipiy' means river and other elements may reference shells or stones from the area. You can learn about this linguistic heritage through the park's signage and visitor centers.

The park has around one hundred campsites with electrical hookups, running water, showers, and facilities for dumping waste. Boat ramps and fishing areas are available for water activities.

Annual floods have carved visible terraces into glacial deposits, especially around the pavilion area. These layers reveal the geological story of how the valley formed.
