CFS Falconbridge, Military radar station in Ontario, Canada
CFS Falconbridge was a Canadian military radar station in Ontario equipped with surveillance technology. The site contained 101 family housing units, a school, church, clinic, and recreational facilities that served as a self-contained base.
The base opened in 1952 as part of the Pinetree Line network monitoring North American airspace during the Cold War. It operated continuously until its closure in 1985, after which the property was redeveloped for civilian residential and storage use.
The station formed a closed community where military families developed strong social bonds through shared facilities and regular gatherings. This sense of belonging shaped how residents lived and worked together during their time there.
The property is now privately managed for residential and storage purposes, so public access is limited. Check in advance if any tours or visits are available, as it no longer operates as a public facility.
On November 11, 1975, the station detected an unidentified flying object and triggered an investigation involving U.S. Air Force jets. This incident remains one of the few documented military encounters with unexplained phenomena during Cold War radar operations.
