Lady Evelyn-Smoothwater Provincial Park, Provincial park in Timiskaming District, Canada
Lady Evelyn-Smoothwater Provincial Park is a wilderness covering approximately 72,400 hectares with numerous lakes, waterfalls, and the province's highest point, Ishpatina Ridge. The landscape features varied terrain that transitions between boreal forest, waterways, and rocky terrain.
Established officially in 1973, the park protects ancient portage routes that Indigenous peoples created and used for over 10,000 years. These pathways were essential networks for trade and travel across the region.
Maple Mountain holds sacred significance for the Teme-Augama Anishnabai people, who call it Chee-bay-jing. The park sits on ancestral lands that remain central to Indigenous life and spiritual practices today.
The park provides 77 backcountry campsites plus one accessible campground open during the season from mid-May through late October. Most areas require canoe or hiking access, so plan accordingly for your visit.
The park serves as the central hub connecting a 2,400-kilometer paddling network that links four waterway parks across the region. This exceptional connection enables multi-week expeditions through interconnected lake and river systems.
