Lady Evelyn Hotel, Historical hotel building on Deer Island in Lake Temagami, Ontario, Canada
The Lady Evelyn Hotel stood as a three-and-a-half-story wooden structure with 108 beds, positioned at the northeastern point of Deer Island in Lake Temagami.
Established in 1904 by the Temagami Steamboat and Hotel Company under Dan O'Connor's management, the hotel operated until its complete destruction by fire on July 4, 1912.
The hotel maintained some of Ontario's highest daily rates at $2.50 to $3.50 per person, catering to affluent guests with specialized residential and resort-oriented vacation packages.
Guests and supplies reached the hotel via steamboat service from Temagami station, with the Belle of Temagami providing regular transportation across the lake.
The fire of 1912 caused damages exceeding $30,000, and today only melted and twisted remains mark the location where this grand hotel once stood.
