Huron University College, college of the Western University in Canada
Huron University College is a liberal arts college in London, Ontario, affiliated with Western University. The campus is made up of older brick buildings set among green spaces, and it sits in the northwest part of the city, not far from the main Western University grounds.
The college was founded in 1863 and was the original institution from which Western University later grew. Over time it became a separate entity within the university system, but kept its focus on a broad, humanities-based education throughout those changes.
The college takes its name from the Huron people, an Indigenous group who originally lived on the land where London now stands. This connection to the land is acknowledged on campus, and the small class sizes make it easy to notice the mix of backgrounds among students in everyday conversations.
The campus is easy to reach by public transit or car from downtown London, as it sits to the northwest of the city center. Once on campus, the grounds are compact enough to walk around without difficulty, and staff are generally available to help visitors find their way.
The college offers a five-year combined program with Ivey Business School, where students can earn a business degree alongside a degree in another subject at the same time. This kind of double-degree path within a small liberal arts setting is uncommon in Canada and sets this college apart from most institutions of its size.
