IBM Toronto Software Lab, software development lab in Toronto, Canada
IBM Toronto Software Lab is a corporate campus in Markham, Ontario, where software developers and engineers work on digital products and technical solutions. The facility houses office floors, computer workstations, and meeting rooms designed around daily team collaboration.
The lab was founded in Toronto in 1967, starting with around 55 employees working on early software projects. In 2001, the team moved from its original location on Eglinton Avenue East to the current building in Markham.
The IBM Toronto Software Lab sits in Markham, a suburb north of Toronto known for its high concentration of technology companies. The campus has an international feel, with professionals from many different countries working side by side on the same projects.
The campus sits on Warden Avenue in Markham and can be reached by public transit or by car. Since the facility is a secured corporate site, visitors need to arrange access in advance with reception or their point of contact inside.
Software built at this lab, such as Db2 and WebSphere Commerce, runs quietly inside the systems of banks, online retailers, and large companies around the world. Rational Application Developer, another product from the same lab, is the tool that many other developers use to write their own software.
