Minto Park, Public park in downtown Ottawa, Canada
Minto Park is a public green space that fills an entire city block between Elgin Street and Cartier Street with walking paths, benches, and mature trees. The park offers open areas where visitors can sit and rest surrounded by nature in the middle of downtown.
The park became a memorial space through the Ottawa Women's Monument, which lists the names of women who died between 1990 and 2000. This installation gave the place special meaning as a site of remembrance.
A bronze bust of General José de San Martín from Argentina stands in the park, showing the place's connection to South American history. This sculpture is one of the features that gives the park its special character.
The park sits near several bus stops and restaurants along Elgin Street, making it easy to reach and explore on foot. You will find plenty of seating areas where you can settle down comfortably.
The Enclave monument in the park serves as a gathering place every December 6th for annual remembrance ceremonies. These events honor victims of the École Polytechnique incident and show how the space has become meaningful for shared memory.
