Ottawa City Hall

Ottawa City Hall is a municipal administration building featuring two connected sections, with a contemporary wing along Laurier Avenue and a heritage-style structure on Elgin Street. Functional public spaces run between them, creating a connected composition that merges both parts.

The building was completed in 1990, replacing earlier structures at a site with military heritage. The location had previously housed temporary buildings during World War II that accommodated military personnel.

Marion Dewar Plaza serves as a public gathering space where residents come together to celebrate local occasions throughout the year. You can observe how the community uses this outdoor area for seasonal events and shared activities.

The building is centrally located and easy to reach on foot, with the main entrance at 110 Laurier Avenue West. Visitors can walk through public areas during regular hours and ask for information about city services at available counters.

In winter, Marion Dewar Plaza transforms into an ice skating rink, a project that started in 2013 and offers free skating for the public. The setup includes equipment rentals, so visitors can join in without bringing their own skates.
