Paul Bishop's House, Georgian duplex in Old Town, Toronto, Canada
The symmetrical brick building at 363-365 Adelaide Street East features stone-clad cellar foundations and decorative window frames spanning two residential units.
Paul Bishop, creator of Toronto's first horse-drawn cab in 1837, constructed this house in 1848 upon foundations from William Jarvis's 1798 residence.
The structure represents the residential patterns of mid-19th century Toronto, when blacksmiths and craftsmen established homes near their workshops.
The duplex maintains its original Georgian design elements while functioning as two separate residential spaces in Toronto's St. Lawrence neighborhood.
The building survived the Great Fire of Toronto in 1849 and later served as a machine shop, garage, and rooming house before its restoration.
