Sibbald Point Provincial Park, Provincial park on Lake Simcoe shores, Canada
Sibbald Point Provincial Park is a 225-hectare park on the shores of Lake Simcoe featuring sandy beaches and forested walking trails. The grounds include open grassy areas and diverse habitats for outdoor activities and wildlife watching.
The Sibbald family developed the estate from a small cottage into a substantial rural property during the 1840s. The land passed to York County in 1951 and was eventually established as a public park for community use.
Eildon Hall, housed within the park grounds, displays furnishings and household items that reflect rural Ontario life from the 1800s. The collection shows how families managed their homes and daily work during that agricultural era.
The park offers campsites with and without electrical hookups, along with a boat launch for year-round access. Visitors should prepare for varying seasonal conditions, particularly when swimming in the lake.
Adjacent to the park grounds, the St. George's Church cemetery holds the graves of writers Stephen Leacock and Mazo de la Roche. Both authors were deeply connected to the region and left an important mark on Canadian literature.
