Founded in 1857 as Central School, the institution later received its current name in honor of principal Jeremiah Suddaby who served until 1910.

The school established Ontario's first kindergarten class in 1882 under the instruction of Janet Metcalfe, marking a significant advancement in early childhood education.

Students attend classes from 9:00 AM to 3:20 PM, with office hours beginning at 8:30 AM and extending until 4:00 PM on regular school days.

Former Canadian Prime Minister William Lyon Mackenzie King attended this educational institution during his formative years in Kitchener.
