World Exchange Plaza, Office complex in Downtown Ottawa, Canada
World Exchange Plaza is an office and shopping complex in downtown Ottawa consisting of two interconnected towers with retail space in between. The buildings occupy an entire city block between Metcalfe and O'Connor Streets and include an underground parking area beneath the site.
The first tower was completed in 1991, with a second tower added a decade later in 2001, making the project a two-phase development over several years. This staged growth reflects the site's increasing importance to the city during that period.
The eastern section features architectural details inspired by the Roman Colosseum, giving the place a classical character that visitors notice while walking through the shops. These design elements connect everyday commerce with historical references in a subtle way.
An underground parking facility with numerous spaces sits beneath the complex, and the LRT station connects directly to the buildings for easy access. This makes arriving by public transit or personal vehicle straightforward and convenient.
The plaza once displayed full-size whale models from the Canadian Museum of Nature as public exhibits for several years. These large artworks were eventually returned to the museum, becoming a memorable part of the site's past.
