Houlton–Woodstock border crossing, Border crossing point between Maine, United States and New Brunswick, Canada.
The Houlton-Woodstock border crossing connects Maine with New Brunswick and serves as the easternmost land gateway between the United States and Canada. The station sits at the northern terminus of Interstate 95 and processes both passenger vehicles and commercial traffic daily.
The current facility opened in 1985 and replaced an older crossing along U.S. Route 2. This move connected border traffic directly to the newly completed highway corridor serving the state.
The border brings together two neighboring towns that share similar characters despite being in different countries, with residents often crossing for shopping and services. Both English and French are spoken in the area, reflecting the bilingual nature of this region.
The crossing operates around the clock with special lanes for pre-approved travelers and expedited commercial vehicle processing. Visitors should carry valid travel documents and be prepared for routine border inspections.
The crossing marks the boundary between Eastern and Atlantic time zones, with the Canadian side running one hour ahead. Travelers often discover this time shift when moving between the two countries.
